Java Sparrows were first introduced to Hawaii in 1867 and then again in the 1960’s in greater numbers to help with mosquito control. Java Sparrows are now common throughout Hawaii, especially Oahu, but they are endangered in their native Indonesia due to extermination efforts by rice farmers. Java Sparrows are common cage birds in China and Japan.
