This painting captures one of the few times that the SS Constitution and the SS Independence docked in Honolulu Harbor at the same time. These ships toured the Hawaiian Islands in the 1980s through 1995. The SS Constitution sank north of Hawaii on November 17, 1997 while it was being towed to a scrap yard. The SS Independence was scrapped in Alang India in 2009.
