The Citadel Square Baptist Church, in Charleston South Carolina, is located on what is now called Marion Square.  When the church was built in 1856 Marion Square was called Citadel Square because it was the location for the Citadel Military Academy, the oldest military academy in the United States, which relocated to another part of Charleston in 1922.

In 1885 a hurricane toppled the original steeple, and in 1886 an earthquake did more damage.  In 1989 hurricane Hugo toppled the steeple again.
