This view of Niagara Falls, from a hotel on the Canadian side, shows the falls illuminated at night. Niagara Falls consists of three waterfalls on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario and separates the United States from Canada. The American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls are on the American side of the river (left side of Goat Island), and the Horseshoe Falls are on the Canadian side of the river (right side of Goat Island). The falls are 176 feet tall, and an average of 150,000 gallons of water flow over the falls every second.
